The role

The R&D Facility Manager will work closely with the engineering team and undertake activities ranging from supporting prototype system build, managing workshop processes and leading a team of technicians. You will be onsite daily and be hands-on with the TRU build program. This is a great opportunity to be part of building an early-stage business. You will play a key role in the development of the Sunswap product range.

You will:

  • Lead technicians to achieve engineering, project and company targets.

  • Provide engineering feedback during build and identify improvement opportunities.

  • Motivate, lead and inspire the team in continuous improvement.

  • Follow detailed working instructions within the build manual, testing the processes and looking for areas of process optimisation.

  • Manage and plan workshop resources to ensure that work requirements are fulfilled.

  • Manage the workshop’s stock and keep workshop processes, including COSHH up to date and ensure the team is familiar with this information.

  • Monitor performance consistently and be responsible for quality within the workshop, reporting progress regularly.

  • Supervise the health and safety compliance across the workshop, hazard perception and the correct use of PPE in the workplace leading by example.

  • Use measuring equipment including; torque wrenches, vernier callipers and micrometers.

You have:

  • Excellent demonstrable ‘hands on’ skills in an R&D environment.

  • Experience managing teams and the ability to lead and train a small team.

  • HNC / HND or equivalent working experience.

  • Experience in automotive / transport / motorsport / electrical systems, complying with industry standards, safety processes and certification.

  • The ability to interpret engineering information in multiple formats.

  • F-gas certification or prior experience working with refrigeration systems.

  • A proactive approach to issue resolution and the ability to problem solve and propose robust engineering solutions.

  • An understanding of electrical build & assembly processes and experience in low voltage wiring.

  • A high-level understanding of electronics and battery technology - safety, cooling, mechanical and control.
