The role

The Design Engineer will support the development of the core Sunswap technology and undertake activities from concepting through to detailed design, system integration, build, testing and certification. This is a great opportunity to be part of building an early-stage business. You will play a key role in the development of the Sunswap product range.

You will:

  • Generate new designs and concepts supporting Sunswap’s innovation.

  • Play an integral part in the development process, produce CAD models, detail drawings, conduct analysis, tests and write reports.

  • Optimise the design of components and systems using functional and analytical tools, including hand calculations and FEA where appropriate.

  • Specify and source components.

  • Develop, manage, and maintain technical documentation like Bills of Materials, DFMEA, Component Specifications and Technical Instructions.

  • Support the assembly of the prototype products.

  • Work closely with all team members, suppliers and manufacturing partners to build strong working relationships.

  • Support customer deployments of the Sunswap refrigeration units.

  • Not afraid to roll your sleeves up and participate in hands-on work when required and enjoy the practical element of the engineering process.

You have:

  • A degree in mechanical, automotive, aerospace engineering or equivalent industry experience.

  • Proven experience having delivered mechanical systems from concept to production.

  • Excellent CAD skills – including part design, electrical integration, sheet metal design, fixtures and engineering drawings.

  • An awareness of good engineering practices and analysis methods.

  • Experience in automotive / transport / motorsport / electrical systems, complying with industry standards, safety processes and certification.

  • A strong understanding of assembly processes, production methods and an ability to assess the manufacturability of parts.
