A common query from prospective customers is the weight of a Sunswap Endurance TRU: How heavy is it? Does it weigh more or less than a diesel transport refrigeration unit? A common perception of batteries as weighty or the sense that there must be a "catch", can lead to the assumption that Sunswap's technology tips the balance well beyond its competitor TRUs in all scenarios.

Whilst Endurance avoids the considerable mass of an internal combustion engine, its battery pack generally levels things back out – depending on the configuration. The visual below puts Endurance's lowest and highest specifications next to that of two diesel equivalents from well-known manufacturers.

"10-20% of load weight can be saved for those less energy-intensive delivery cycles"

Sunswap's design engineers have worked hard to ensure that their largest battery and charger configuration is as light as possible, being only marginally heavier than its counterparts, with all 3 in the comparison below weighing just over 1 tonne.

On the lightest end of the scale, Sunswap Endurance excels by having modular battery. This means that around 10-20% of load weight can be saved for those less energy-intensive delivery cycles – such as ambient, chilled or retailer deliveries. On the other hand, the diesel counterparts typically have two fuel tank options.
